The towering Basel Minster, made of red sandstone with patterned roof tiles, offers breathtaking views from its twin towers—don’t miss the climb if you're up for it. One of the most memorable moments for me was walking across the Mittlere Brücke, the historic bridge over the Rhine, as river ferries drifted silently below. Locals in business suits and students alike relax on the riverbanks—a perfect snapshot of Basel’s balance between tradition and modernity. Then came the art—so much art. Basel is home to nearly 40 museums! The Kunstmuseum stunned me with works by Picasso, van Gogh, and Holbein, while the Fondation Beyeler in nearby Riehen felt like walking through a dream of light and color. If you visit in June, the Art Basel fair is a global must-see. Best Time to Visit: May to September: Perfect weather for outdoor cafes, river swims, and festivals. December: The Basel Christmas Market is one of the most enchanting in Switzerland. Travel Tips: Try the “Rheinschwimmen”—floating down the Rhine with a waterproof bag like a local! Grab a bite at Markthalle, a vibrant indoor food hall with global flavors. Day trips to Colmar (France) or Freiburg (Germany) are just a train ride away.
