Beijing Zhongshan Park is a historic urban park with a rich cultural heritage. From March to April, the park is in full bloom, offering pleasant spring scenery. 🗣️ Introduction • Shejitan Altar: The place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped the gods of earth and grain. It is one of the core attractions of Zhongshan Park. The upper layer is paved with five-colored soil (east blue, south red, west white, north black, and center yellow), commonly known as "five-colored soil," symbolizing "all under heaven belongs to the emperor." • Zhongshan Hall: Originally a place for emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to rest during worship ceremonies or to conduct rituals in case of rain. After Dr. Sun Yat-sen's death in 1925, his body lay in state in the hall. In 1928, it was renamed Zhongshan Hall. • Xiliting Pavilion: Built in the 18th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty, it was originally located in the Honglu Temple Yamen on Bingbu Street inside Zhengyang Gate. It was a place for newly arrived civil and military officials, minority leaders, and envoys from tributary states to practice the etiquette of觐见 (paying respect to) the emperor. • Tang Flowery Dock: Built in 1915, it was initially a brick and wood structure. After several renovations, it has retained its original "swallow's wings" shape, with the roofs on both sides raised for better lighting. It is one of the main flower viewing spots in the park. • Lanting Eight-Pillar Pavilion: Located on the west side of Tang Flowery Dock, the pavilion houses a stone tablet and eight stone pillars with inscriptions. The front of the stone tablet is engraved with the "Lanting Preface" and its inscription from the ninth year of Yonghe reign of the Jin Dynasty. The back is engraved with a poem by Emperor Qianlong. It is one of the "Forty Scenes of the Yuanmingyuan Garden," known as "Sitting on a Rock by the Stream." 🚏 Suggested Routes • South Gate - Shejitan Altar - Zhongshan Hall - Xiliting Pavilion - Tang Flowery Dock - Lanting Eight-Pillar Pavilion - West Gate: This route covers the main attractions of Zhongshan Park, allowing you to appreciate the ancient architecture and gardens of the Ming and Qing dynasties. You can also take photos at Tang Flowery Dock and Lanting Eight-Pillar Pavilion. • West Gate - Lanting Eight-Pillar Pavilion - Tang Flowery Dock - Xiliting Pavilion - Zhongshan Hall - Shejitan Altar - South Gate: This route is the reverse of the first one. Transportation • 🚌 Bus: Take Bus No. 1, 5, 52, or Sightseeing Line 1 and get off at "Tiananmen West Station." Walk east for 3 minutes on the north side of the road to reach the South Gate. Take Bus No. 5 and get off at "Zhongshan Park West Gate Station." Walk north for 3 minutes on the east side of the road to reach the West Gate. • 🚇 Subway: Take Subway Line 1 and get off at "Tiananmen West Station." Exit from Exit B, walk east for 3 minutes on the north side of the road to reach the South Gate. ⏰ Visiting Time The recommended visiting time is 2–3 hours, which can be adjusted according to your interests and schedule.
