Southern Confucius

Yan Zi's Tomb: Yan Zi (506–443 BC), whose given name was Yan and courtesy name was Ziyou, was a native of the State of Wu in the late Spring and Autumn Period. He was one of the 72 disciples of Confucius and the only one from the south. When Yan Zi was the county magistrate of the State of Lu, he was known for his governance through music. In the Book of Rites, he elaborated on Confucius' ideas of a moderately prosperous society and a great harmony, which are of great significance to Confucianism and the study of rites. Yan Zi was revered as the Southern Confucius by later generations and was honored in Confucian sacrifices.
