Huzhou Luyu Ancient Trail

Huzhou Luyu Ancient Trail, also known as Xiamu Mountain Ancient Trail, is located in the Xiamu Mountain Scenic Area of Miaoxi Town, Wuxing District, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Lu Yu, a renowned tea scholar of the Tang Dynasty, was revered by later generations as the "Sage of Tea" or "Tea Immortal." In his youth, he left his hometown and settled by the Tiaoxi River in Huzhou, considering it his second home. The trail is named after him as he once cultivated tea and discussed scriptures here. The Luyu Ancient Trail is a linear cultural heritage composed of multiple routes, representing the precious legacy of Luyu's cultural exchange, development, and dissemination. Xiamu Mountain is an extension of the Tianmu Mountain range, with an elevation of 560 meters. The ancient trail begins at the picturesque Xiamu Mountain Reservoir. On the mountain lies the Xiamu Spring, known as "Tianhu" (Heavenly Lake), while at the foot are the Xiamu Mountain Reservoir, Gufeng Reservoir, Shichuanwu Reservoir, and Dingniangling Reservoir. The trail is flanked by lush forests and dense vegetation, featuring magnificent tea plantations, centuries-old stone paths, hidden trails through thick foliage, and serene bamboo groves. Small Loop: Approximately 6-7 km in length, with an elevation gain of 200-300 meters, taking 3-4 hours. Starting from the Huixin Valley parking lot, the route passes the Xiamu Mountain Reservoir, enters the ancient trail, follows stone paths through dense forests, ascends the Baibuze steps, passes the Luyu Ancient Trail Station (Xiamu Spring), proceeds to Yunlin Zen Temple, and finally traverses vast tea plantations and Xiamu Mountain's bamboo sea before returning to the Huixin Valley parking lot. Large Loop: Approximately 9-10 km in length, with an elevation gain of 400-500 meters, requiring 5-6 hours. The starting point is the Shaokang Village Reservoir, ascending along mountain paths, mostly winding through dense forests with numerous small streams along the way. Self-drive: Navigate directly to "Huzhou Huixin Valley Green Luxury Resort" (starting point of the small loop) or "Miaoxi Town Shaokang Village Committee" (starting point of the large loop). Parking is free and convenient.
