The Hidden House: A True Hidden Gem

On the 14th floor of a residential building you'll find 'The Hidden House'. A boutique hotel with incredible service, beautiful views, and a lovely zen aesthetic. In Chinese it's called Yinqitang Hotel. The hotel is reasonably priced, especially during off-season. Do yourself a favor and get the breakfast included. It's cheap and simple but flavorful and satisfying. I loved the dan dan mian! The best part of this hotel is it's location. Located along the Jin River, it is a perfect place to start a walking tour of Chengdu. While it would be a relatively far walk (10 minute cab ride), it's worth getting a pair of comfy shoes and heading to People's Park. The hotel itself also offers a roof top bar at night with stunning views of the river and city. After a couple of cocktails you can head down to Lan Kwai Fong which is directly adjacent to the hotel. Here you'll find the best bars, lounges and clubs in the city. If you're a foreigner I particularly recommend Orangutan, Revolucion, or Tiki Boom for the music and dance floor. The bed is comfortable, the bedding was changed daily, and the towels were soft. I especially loved the little tea nook where they provided us loose leaf tea to enjoy on a chilly day. It was great to enjoy some tea before an afternoon nap.
