Chengdu Qingyang Palace

Qingyang Palace is located in Qingyang District, Chengdu. It is one of the oldest and most famous Taoist temples in Southwest China and is known as the "No. 1 Taoist Temple in Western Sichuan." It has a long history and profound cultural heritage, and is considered an important holy place of the Quanzhen Sect of Taoism. Qingyang Palace was first built in the Zhou Dynasty and has been renovated through the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. It is one of the birthplaces of Taoism in China. It is said that Laozi, the founder of Taoism, once preached here, so this place is also revered as a Taoist holy place. Legend has it that there is a green divine sheep hidden in the Qingyang Palace, symbolizing the yin and yang energies in Taoism. The existing Qingyang sculpture is said to be able to ward off evil and is the iconic landscape of Qingyang Palace. Main attractions of Qingyang Palace 1. Mountain Gate The gate of the Taoist temple at the entrance is simple and solemn, with a pair of stone lions in front of it, symbolizing the protection of the Taoist gate. 2. Bagua Pavilion The Bagua Pavilion in Qingyang Palace is an ancient Taoist building. The roof of the pavilion is decorated with Bagua patterns, symbolizing the Taoist view of the universe. 3. Sanqing Hall The core building of Qingyang Palace, it enshrines the Three Pure Ones of Taoism: Yuqing Yuanshi Tianzun, Shangqing Lingbao Tianzun, and Taiqing Daode Tianzun. 4. Green Sheep Statue The famous Green Sheep stone statue in the palace is said to be the treasure of the Taoist palace and symbolizes auspiciousness. 5. Laojun Temple The Taoist founder Taishang Laojun (i.e. Laozi) is enshrined here and the temple is very popular. 6. Ancient well and elixir site It is said that the ancient well in the palace was once used to refine elixirs for immortality, but now it has become a historical relic. Qingyang Palace is not only a Taoist holy place, but also carries the profound historical and cultural heritage of Chengdu. The environment here is quiet and the ancient trees are towering, which is very suitable for praying, visiting Taoist culture, and feeling the Taoist charm of ancient Chengdu.
