A Lively Stroll Through Wangping Street, Chengdu

#chengdutrip My visit to Wangping Street in Chengdu was like stepping into a glowing alleyway of taste, color, and charm. As the evening settled in, the street lit up in full character—rows of restaurants and cafés adorned with bright signboards, hanging lanterns, and retro-style neon lights that gave the whole stretch a nostalgic, yet contemporary vibe. The atmosphere was electric but inviting. Each eatery had its own aesthetic—from traditional wooden façades to modern glass storefronts, all glowing warmly under creative lighting. Red and amber hues danced across the walls, while the aroma of Sichuan spices floated gently in the air, tempting passersby at every turn. It was easy to get lost in the details: handwritten menus on chalkboards, steam curling up from outdoor hotpots, and the hum of conversations blending into the sounds of sizzling woks. What I loved most was how intimate the street felt, despite being in a major city. Small benches and outdoor tables were tucked under trees wrapped in fairy lights. Locals gathered in groups, sharing skewers, hot noodles, or desserts, and there was always laughter or music floating through the air. As I wandered slowly along the glowing path, I stopped to admire shopfronts that looked like scenes from a movie set—some inspired by old Chengdu teahouses, others with chic, minimalist signs and ambient jazz playing softly. Each turn brought something new, and the mix of tradition and trend gave the street a uniquely Chengdu flavor. Wangping Street wasn’t just a food street—it was a visual journey, a place that buzzed with the city’s youthful energy while holding onto its cultural roots. A perfect spot to enjoy a casual dinner, soak in the lights, and feel the pulse of Chengdu at night.

Back to Chengdu, only one thing to do: Xuan Bread. I went out for three or five days during the National Day holiday. What I missed most in Chengdu was not hot pot and skewers, but this bakery.
