Zhengyuan Ancient Village in Chenzhou, Hunan

With a history of over 600 years, Zhengyuan Village preserves ancient architectural treasures including ceremonial gates, stone-paved alleys, and more than 50 traditional buildings spanning over 10,000 square meters, featuring exquisite wood, brick, stone, and lacquer carvings. The village is primarily inhabited by the Wang and Cao clans, with the Wang family having migrated from Yongxing in 1384. The Wang Clan Ancestral Hall, built during the Qing Dynasty, served as the site of the Soviet government during the revolutionary period. Around the Lantern Festival each year, all generations of the Wang family gather in Zhengyuan Village's natural settlement. Villagers adorn their plow oxen with red flowers, set off firecrackers in the fields, and hold an authentic plowing ceremony. Meanwhile, in the village ancestral hall, men craft "Fire Immortal Oxen" from straw. As night falls, they light incense on these straw oxen, beat gongs and drums, and engage in mock battles with the "Fire Immortal Oxen" to pray for a bountiful harvest. Recognized as part of the fifth batch of China's Traditional Villages.
