Cheongdo Daejeon-ri Ginkgo Tree. Address: 638, Daejeon-ri, Iseo-myeon, Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongbuk. Height: 29-30m, Circumference: 8.5-8.8m. There are theories that the tree is either 400 years old or 1300 years old. One theory suggests that during the Silla period, a passing Taoist priest tried to drink water from a well, fell in, and died, after which a ginkgo tree grew from the well. Another theory says that a woman passing through the village tried to drink water from the well, fell in, and died, and the ginkgo seed she had in her pocket sprouted. As the tree grew, the well disappeared, leaving only the ginkgo tree. A third theory estimates the tree's age at 1300 years, suggesting it was planted as a boundary marker during the reorganization of local administrative districts at the end of the Silla period. These three theories are passed down. Villagers here predict the next year's harvest by observing the falling ginkgo leaves. If the leaves fall quietly all at once, they believe it will be a good harvest year; if they fall slowly and sparsely, they believe it will be a poor harvest year.
