Chiang Mai History and Culture Exhibition

The Chiang Mai Arts and Culture Center, located behind the Three Kings Monument, features an exhibition on the history and culture of Chiang Mai. The exhibition includes Chinese descriptions, such as those about the ethnic minorities in the mountains around Chiang Mai, some of whom are immigrants from China: Settled on the ridges and backs of the mountains around Chiang Mai are people of various ethnicities, with settlements dating back over 150 years. These ethnic groups include the Karen, Yao, Hmong, Lahu, Akha, and Lisu. Most of the Karen are immigrants from Myanmar, with the majority residing in Omkoi, Phop Phra, and Mae Chaem districts. The Lahu and Lisu migrated from mainland China, crossing Myanmar and through southern Yunnan. The Hmong also migrated from mainland China, crossing Laos before moving to Thailand. The lifestyles and cultures of these people are different from those of the Chiang Mai people on the plains, but they are interdependent and able to integrate perfectly, which is an important component of Chiang Mai's cultural diversity. For example, it also mentions the water transport between Chiang Mai and Bangkok, taking fifteen days to go and two to three months to return. It talks about the later construction of the railway. It also explains the layout of the temples, such as the Five Buddhas, the Seven Golden Mountains, etc. The ticket is ninety Thai baht, and it takes one hour to complete the tour. After the visit, you can go to a nearby old Hainanese chicken rice shop (established in 1957) for a meal.
