Ming Muang Temple, pay homage to Luang Pho Phra Sri Ming Muang

#VisitSecondaryCities 🙏Wat Ming Muang is a Shan temple. In the past, there was a Shan community called Wat Ngio or Wat Chang Moob (Elephant Crouching). It was called "Wat Talam Mae Si" according to the gold plate inscribed with Burmese characters, which is the name of the temple's creator, Chao Nang Talam Mae Si, the consort of King Mangrai. 🙏Chao Nang Talam Mae Si is Mahadevi Usapayako, the daughter of King Payu Cheng, the ruler of Phakho (Hongsawadi), who offered her to be a servant to King Mangrai when he won the war against Burma. 🛕It is the personal temple of Queen Awa Ming Chom Mueang, the mother of King Mangrai. She would come to practice Dhamma at this temple regularly. 🛕The name of Wat Chang Moob comes from the time when King Sam Fang Kaen invited the Emerald Buddha from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai. The elephant was lying down waiting in front of Wat Ming Muang and then the procession moved out of the city gate near the temple to Chiang Mai, so the locals called it Wat Chang Moob. 🏚Then there was a war with Burma. Chiang Rai was a deserted city, and was revived again during the reign of King Thammalangka, the first governor. The deserted city was restored and temples and city walls were repaired, including Wat Ming Mueang. Ancient sites and artifacts in the temple 🙏 Luang Pho Phra Si Ming Mueang, the principal Buddha image in the chapel, is a molded Buddha image, lacquered and gilded. The Buddha image is beautiful in the style of Chiang Saen Singh 1, early period. The top of the crown is in the shape of a lotus bud, carved from Pong Kham glass stone, which is a stone that can only be found in the Lanna region. 🏰 Lai Kham wooden chapel, a combination of Thai Yai and Lanna art. The interior is decorated with carved patterns, lacquered and gilded, along with Traibhumi ceiling panels and swan-shaped brali. 🛕 Phra That Ming Mueang, enshrining the Buddha's relics, Lanna art, before being restored in a Burmese style. Later, it was renovated by building four surrounding chedis, decorated with Burmese-style umbrellas. 🏡 Nam Bo Chang Moob, an ancient well with a roof in the shape of a canopy.
