Atop Mnt. Baldy!

#gooutside Mount Baldy is a magnificent mountain in the United States that can be seen well from Canada. It is in the same Olympic mountain range as internationally known Hurricane Ridge. Except for a few warm summer months, it's huge dome is usually covered in snow. It watches over the Straight of Juan de Fuca and the small city of Sequim. It is second only to Mnt. Olympus because it's snow melts while Mnt. Olympus maintains year around glaciers. It can be about an 8hr hike, or faster to the Summit and back. Off of Highway 101, Palo Alto road leads to Forest Service Rd 2870, then rd # 270. Park at the dead end where there are 2 trails. The left lower trail is brushy but the right upper trail is maintained. Take the right trail up through the Forest. It's steep but lovely. Proceed up out of the trees. Above tree line there is less vegetation and serene apline meadows. You will reach the high saddle ridge between 2 peaks. To reach the ridge can take about 3 hours from the parking lot. Go left to Baldy or right to Tyler peak. With another 2 hours of hiking West along the ridge, you will summit Mount Baldy! The vistas are breathtaking! To the North, you can see Canada, the straight of Juan de Fuca, The Dungeness Spit with its old working lighthouse, the small city of Sequim, Sequim Bay and Discovery Bay. To the East, West and South, you see places like Tyler peak, the Greywolf valley, Royal Basin, Mnt Mystery , Warrior Peak, peak no name, Deer Park, Deer ridge and more mountains and valleys! Hiking down takes about 3hrs or faster. The total time for an average hiker can be 8 hous or less. I believe it's totally worth it!
