Gantong Temple in Dali, Yunnan is a free attraction.

👉Gantong Temple was formerly known as Dangshan Temple. According to the Dangshan Zhilue, "Dangshan Temple on Cangshan Mountain was first built in the Han Dynasty and rebuilt in the Tang Dynasty." 👍In 1581, Bai scholar Li Yuanyang wrote the Rebuilding of Gantong Temple, which begins with, "Ten miles south of Dali City, there is a temple called Gantong in the west of the valley, built by the sage Li Chengmei in the early Tang Dynasty." The meaning of "Gantong" is explained as, "There is no city in the world that is not connected, and there is no connection without feeling... If you don't understand the truth, you can't feel it... If you feel it, you will be connected." 🌈By the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, a total of 36 temples and nunneries had been built. By the end of the Ming Dynasty, the temples and nunneries had been destroyed. When the temple was rebuilt in the early Qing Dynasty, it was moved to its present location. Today, there is one temple and one nunnery (Dayun Hall and Jizhao Hall). The temple has seven steles that record the rise and fall of the temple. Behind Dayun Hall, there is a 3.5-meter-high pagoda-shaped tomb of Dandang, with an inscription recording Dandang's life. To the west of Jizhao Nunnery is the Ming Dynasty Putong Pagoda, and to the northwest are several Ming Dynasty monk pagodas.
