Moganshan Villas

The Moganshan Villa Complex is located in the center of the Moganshan system in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is an outstanding representative of modern Chinese villa architecture and a national key cultural relic protection unit. The Moganshan villa complex was built from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China period. It was initially constructed by people from Britain, the United States, France, Germany, Russia and other countries. Later, important members of the Kuomintang and wealthy businessmen from the industrial and commercial circles also built villas here, and gradually the scale was formed. Moganshan Villa is closely linked to major historical events in modern China. For example, No. 511 Baiyunshan Pavilion was where Chiang Kai-shek and Soong May-ling spent their honeymoon, and it was also the place where Chiang Kai-shek and Zhou Enlai held the second Kuomintang-Communist talks. No. 550 Songyuelu was where Chiang Kai-shek and Soong May-ling held a meeting on currency reform. No. 126 is where Chairman Mao stayed, etc. The Moganshan villa complex has diverse styles, including Nordic pastoral steep roofs, ancient Roman column-style architectural relics, Gothic arched doors and windows, Western classical gate railings, and Chinese classical architectural hip-and-gable eaves. It is like a museum of villa architecture. The villa complex is integrated with nature, built against the mountain, making full use of the terrain and topography, and coexisting harmoniously with the surrounding mountains, forests, bamboo sea and other natural environments.
