Unique Dongshan Island

Dongshan Island is located in Dongshan County, Fujian Province, between Xiamen and Shantou. It faces the Taiwan Strait to the east, Zhao'an Bay to the west, and is connected to Yunxiao County, Zhangzhou by the Bachimen Causeway. • Topography: Dongshan Island stretches roughly northeastward, with higher terrain in the northwest and lower terrain in the southeast. The landscape mainly consists of hills, terraces, and coastal plains. The coastline is 158.1 km long, with a winding shoreline and numerous bays. • Climate: Dongshan Island has a subtropical maritime monsoon climate, which is warm, comfortable, and sunny. The average annual temperature is 20.9°C, and the average annual rainfall is 1224.9 mm. Natural disasters include droughts, typhoons, strong winds, and heavy rain. • History and Culture • Historical Evolution: Human activities can be traced back to the Paleolithic Age. Dongshan Island was liberated on May 12, 1950. It was formerly known as Tongshan Island, but later renamed Dongshan Island after the Dongshan Mountain (Sufeng Mountain) on the island. • Cultural Relics: Dongshan Island boasts rich historical and cultural heritage, including the Dongshan Guandi Temple (one of the four major Guandi Temples in China), Nanming Academy, and the Huang Daozhou Memorial Hall. • Tourist Attractions • Nanmen Bay: Famous for being a filming location for the movie "The Left Ear," Nanmen Bay features colorful houses scattered in an orderly fashion. At dusk, the setting sun paints the bay orange-red, creating a charming scene. • Jinluan Bay: With its fine, powdery sand and crystal-clear water, Jinluan Bay is known as the "Mirror of the Sky." The beach becomes smooth as a mirror after the tide recedes, making it an ideal spot for watching the sunrise. • Sufeng Mountain: The mountain offers stunning scenery, with a winding mountain road. On one side is the azure sea, and on the other are verdant hills. The viewing platform at the summit offers a panoramic view of Dongshan Island. • Fengdong Stone Scenic Area: Featuring the Fengdong Stone as its landmark attraction, this scenic area is known for the miraculous stone that sways in the wind but never falls. Other attractions include the coastal boardwalk. • Food Recommendations • Chen Ji Meatball Shop: The signature beef balls and fish balls are springy and smooth, served in a delicious broth.
