A Nature Reserve on the Adriatic Sea

Sitting on the balcony of the homestay, Lokrum Island is right before your eyes. The elderly landlady suggested we visit the island. Ferries depart from Dubrovnik's old harbor to the island every half hour from 7 AM to 7 PM, costing 30 euros. Overnight stays are not allowed on the island, as the entire place is a natural forest reserve. I only explored near the pier, where there's a small botanical garden, a children's playground, an "Emerald Lake," and of course, restaurants and shops. Many tourists head straight to a flat area extending into the sea to sunbathe and swim. Others hike to the island's highest point. Some join guided kayaking tours between Dubrovnik and the island. Few, like me, return after just an hour.
