As part of the city's historic center, it is listed as a World Heritage Site. It is the most important ancient Roman site in Portugal. The Roman Temple of Evora has witnessed twenty-one centuries since the time of Augustus. A long history, changes over the years, and all kinds of strange legends over thousands of years. In the fifth century AD, the barbarians who almost destroyed the Villarreal Peninsula arrived here. It was used as a massacre site by the powerful city-state of Evora. In the 14th century, the Romans took it back and it was discovered by a Portuguese archaeologist in the 19th century. It was once the empire of the cult of Évora, and it tells of a 17th-century tradition with a dedicated altar to the Roman goddess Diana. For this reason, it was also identified as a temple dedicated to Diana for a long time.
