[Fukuoka/Shika Island] Shikaumi Shrine

This shrine has a great view, located on the cliffs of Shikanoshima. The gently sloping approach to the shrine turns into stone steps just before the Nino Torii gate. You can purify yourself with salt and sand before praying. Three sea gods are enshrined here, and the Rokunodo Hall is filled with deer antlers that Empress Jingu started donating to the shrine after hunting deer around the time of her dispatch of forces to the Three Kingdoms of Korea. The quiet atmosphere and elevated location allow the sea breeze to blow through, making the air feel pleasant even in midsummer. One of my travel goals is to greet the local gods when I travel. This was a wonderful shrine where I could greet the shrine of the god by the sea. It's about a 20-minute bus ride from Marine World Uminonakamichi, where I stopped off before going here. On the way back, I took a boat from Shikanoshima Ferry Terminal near the Ichino Torii gate towards Hakata. The beach at Shikanoshima was crowded with local people, but the boat was empty with only those people on board.
