[A mysterious financier-shaped building]

This is a Rinzai sect temple of the Kenninji school in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture. In the vast grounds, you can see the architectural beauty of Sen no Rikyu's restored teahouse, the temple office "Matsudo" designed by architectural historian and architect Fujimori Terunobu, and the art pavilion "Koutei" by sculptor Nawa Kohei and the creative platform "Sandwich". The art pavilion "Koutei" is a boat-shaped building wrapped in soft wood, and opened in September 2016. From the collection of 1,500 Zen paintings and calligraphy, 20 to 30 pieces are displayed in the halls on the grounds at any one time without being placed in glass cases, and the entire grounds are a museum of Zen and gardens. In the grounds, you can also enjoy "Shinshoji Udon", which has been certified as a Fukuyama brand, as well as sencha sets and matcha.
