Europa Point Lighthouse

‌Europa Point Lighthouse, also known as the Lighthouse of Europe, is located at the southernmost point of Gibraltar and is an important maritime landmark in the region. The lighthouse provides safe navigation guidance for ships sailing in the Strait of Gibraltar. Europa Point Lighthouse was built around 1840 by Trinity House of the United Kingdom. It is located at the junction of the Strait of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea and has important historical and maritime value. From the lighthouse, you can see the coastline of North Africa and the scenery of southern Spain. Whether at sunrise or sunset, it offers spectacular sea views and is a must-see attraction for visitors to Gibraltar. Not far from the lighthouse is a cannon pointing to the African continent and a monument marked by an airplane propeller commemorating Polish General Sikorski. On July 4, 1943, a B-24 bomber carrying Władysław Sikorski, Prime Minister of the Polish government-in-exile and Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army, crashed shortly after taking off from Gibraltar Airport, killing 16 people, including Sikorski. ⏳Visiting time: Free admission, 10–30 minutes.
