Hoh Xil: Where Animals Run Free and Roam Wild

‌The Hoh Xil region is home to a diverse range of animal species, including:‌ ‌Tibetan Antelope‌: The Tibetan antelope is the star animal of Hoh Xil, highly adapted to the plateau environment and capable of running at speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour in the thin air. They mainly inhabit alpine grasslands and alpine desert areas at altitudes of 3,700–5,500 meters, primarily distributed across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. ‌Wild Yak‌: Wild yaks are massive, with long, thick fur and unique adaptations for plateau life, including 14 pairs of ribs, which allow for a larger chest cavity to accommodate larger lungs and heart. They mainly inhabit plateau and desert areas. ‌Przewalski's Gazelle‌: The Przewalski's gazelle is a true plateau antelope, capable of reaching altitudes of over 5,000 meters. Their fur is grayish-brown, with a white belly and a large, pure white patch on the rump that shines in the sunlight. ‌Tibetan Wild Ass (Kiang)‌: The Tibetan wild ass is an odd-toed ungulate that doesn't rely on long fur for warmth and can survive in extreme environments. They enjoy racing cars and can reach top speeds of up to 64 kilometers per hour. ‌Plateau Pika‌: This tailless, round-bodied small animal has many special adaptations to the plateau environment and is considered a key species for maintaining the stability of the alpine meadow ecosystem. Their complex burrows provide habitat for many ground-nesting birds. ‌Black-necked Crane‌: The black-necked crane is the only crane species that lives on the plateau, mainly inhabiting wetland ecosystems. ‌Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier)‌: This huge vulture has a wingspan of up to 3 meters and feeds mainly on carrion. ‌Qinghai Toad-headed Agama‌: The Qinghai toad-headed agama is the only reptile in Hoh Xil, adapted to the climate and environment of high-altitude areas and reproducing through a unique ovoviviparous method. ‌Triplophysa stoliczkai (a type of loach)‌: This plateau fish has adapted to the special geological conditions and climate of Hoh Xil, exhibiting distinct regional characteristics.
