Flowers in Flower City: Encounter the Most Beautiful Magnolias at the Sun Yat-sen Library

The Sun Yat-sen Library is located between Wende Road and Fuxue West Street, with the main entrance on Wende Road. - The main gate and courtyard walls are made of red brick and decorated with green glazed tiles. The main building opposite has the same architectural style, with red walls and green tiles, typical of the Republican era. - 📶 History and Culture This site is the former location of the Guangzhou Municipal Sun Yat-sen Library. This Chinese-Western-style palatial building was funded by overseas Chinese in the Americas, designed by Lin Keming, and completed in October 1933 to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen. After liberation, it was renamed the Guangzhou Sun Yat-sen Library and later became the Sun Yat-sen Library, mainly collecting various monographs, biographies, notes, photos, and other related materials of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. - In front of the building stands a statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, holding a hat in one hand and his clothes in the other, striding forward. Opposite the statue is a pool called Hanmo Pool. There is also a Fanshan Pavilion in the courtyard, but I didn't notice it at the time. - The library was built on the site of the Guangfu Confucian Academy. Hanmo Pool already existed during the time of the academy and may have been the former Pan Pond. The name of Fuxue West Street behind it is obviously derived from this. Later, in the alley of Fuxue West Street, I also found an ancient well with two springs, also a relic of the Confucian Academy. - The Confucian Academy used to be built on the edge of Fanshan Mountain, but the mountain has long since disappeared. Guangzhou's ancient name, Panyu, comes from its location between Fanshan and Yushan mountains, both of which are now gone. - 🌸 Encounter the Most Beautiful Magnolias A magnolia tree in front of the building is in full bloom, attracting people to stop and take photos. Some photography enthusiasts, armed with long lenses and cameras, are clearly well-prepared. - Entering the building, you'll find its design quite unique. The center is a circular tower, and the surrounding buildings are arranged around it like stars cupping the moon. The interior space is very open, and the second floor of the tower has a circular corridor with beautiful chandeliers hanging in the center. The building is currently used as the Children's Section of the Guangdong Provincial Sun Yat-sen Library, where many children are reading.
