Guangzhou MO | Probably the best service hotel in Canton Guangzhou staycation | 24hrs at Mandarin Oriental My last 24-hour stay in Guangzhou was at the Rosewood. Though new with decent views directly facing the Canton Tower, my impression was marred by the complicated elevator transfers and incessant check-out reminder calls starting way before the actual time—quite off-putting. This time, I chose Mandarin Oriental for the Janice Vidal concert. Arrived at the hotel at 3:30 PM, but the room wasn’t ready. Though we eventually got an upgrade, we had to wait an extra half-hour at the front desk, where the staff seemed a bit inexperienced and communication wasn’t smooth. The room, however, was a delightful surprise—a rare cool-toned mid-century wooden style, unlike the standard warm yellow hues of most hotels. That sideboard in particular made me want to pack it up and take it home! Turndown service came with snacks and a small bottle of barley water to reduce puffiness and dampness—very Cantonese. Noticed a glasses cloth placed next to my spectacles on the table—thoughtful details that speak volumes without words. The hotel’s location is great, right next to TaiKoo Hui. Across the street is Bing Sheng, a must-eat every time I’m in Guangdong. Post-concert, we headed straight there for late-night snacks. Obsessed with Bing Sheng’s pineapple buns—last time I even packed some back to Shanghai. Felt unnecessary but brought pure joy. Slept through breakfast the next day and ordered room service (since takeout would require a trip downstairs—strongly recommend using their delivery robot). Expected just a quick bite, but every dish was surprisingly good. Spotted a cat shelter at the entrance upon arrival. Later learned from notes that the hotel’s management loves animals—not only is it pet-friendly, but they also regularly feed stray cats.
