Haiyan, Tianning Temple.

Tianning Temple, located at Haibin West Road, Haiyan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, is a large Buddhist temple with a rich history and culture. Tianning Temple is one of the ten largest temples in China. According to records, it was built in the Han Dynasty and was originally named Chanyue Monastery. In the fourth year of Song Chongning (1105), it was renamed Tianning Yongzuo Chan Temple, or Tianning Temple for short. It is a key Buddhist site in Zhejiang Province. The main structures of Tianning Temple include the Thousand Buddha Pavilion and Zhenhai Pagoda. The Thousand Buddha Pavilion is currently the largest single wooden structure from the Ming Dynasty in Zhejiang Province. Built in the first year of Ming Chongzhen (1628), it was once praised by Professor Chen Congzhou as the "First Pavilion of Zhejiang." Zhenhai Pagoda was built in the third year of Yuan Zhiyuan (1337) under the supervision of the famous monk Fan Qi. It was once a landmark building in Haiyan County. Having weathered many storms, it has undergone several repairs and renovations. Records show that it was twice hit by Japanese artillery fire between 1937 and 1938, causing severe damage to the northeast area and tilting the tower significantly. After the war of liberation, it was further battered by typhoons and underwent multiple repairs and renovations to reach its present state.
