Hong Kong Heritage Museum launches new exhibition "Bruce Lee: A Sustainable Classic" and special events

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the death of legendary martial arts superstar Bruce Lee. The Hong Kong Heritage Museum will hold a number of events in July to pay tribute to Bruce Lee, including the "Bruce Lee - Forever Classic" exhibition, screenings of Bruce Lee's films "The Little Cheung", "Way of the Dragon", "Fist of Fury" and "Fist of Fury", as well as co-organizing Asia's first "Hong Kong Bruce Lee Day Camp 2023" in collaboration with the Bruce Lee Foundation. Bruce Lee (1940-1973) became internationally famous as Bruce Lee. He introduced the Chinese Kung Fu concept to the American film and television industry. In 1971, he returned to Hong Kong to shoot five films, which became classics. Bruce Lee's appeal transcends time, region and social class. His thoughts and ideas during his lifetime have been widely circulated, transformed and reproduced over the years, becoming the subject of various popular culture carriers such as movies, comics, animation, models, etc. The Hong Kong Heritage Museum will hold the "Bruce Lee - Forever a Classic" exhibition from July 12 to January 1 next year, exhibiting a series of Bruce Lee-themed pop culture collections in the Juxian Hall on the first floor of the museum, including books, commemorative stamps, action figures, etc. Selected exhibits include a calendar card commemorating the premiere of the movie "Way of the Dragon" (1973), books and periodicals on Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do and movies, a Bruce Lee commemorative photo album, a silicone bust of Bruce Lee and a "Bruce Lee - The Heritage of Martial Arts" package. The museum has specially collaborated with the Bruce Lee Foundation in the United States to launch the five-day "Hong Kong Bruce Lee Day Camp 2023" from July 18 to July 22, allowing 30 primary 4 to 6 students to learn about Bruce Lee's philosophy of life and his achievements through various interesting activities such as Jeet Kune Do novice experience, exhibition tours, story theater, Jingguan Tea Art Workshop and Sand Painting Art Workshop, while enhancing their self-confidence and inspiring their learning potential. Participants can also meet online with Bruce Lee’s daughter and Chairman of the Bruce Lee Foundation, Shannon Lee, to share their learning experiences and achievements. Registration for the day camp started in early June and the museum has contacted successful registrants individually. In addition, the museum will screen the films "Way of the Dragon", "Fist of Fury" and "Fist of Fury" for free in the theater on the first floor of the museum on July 20, and will collaborate with the Hong Kong Film Archive to screen the film "Little Cheung" (1950) for free in the theater on the first floor of the museum at 2 pm on July 22. This film is of special significance as it was the first time Bruce Lee played the leading role in a movie when he was ten years old. A discussion session was held after the screening, during which actress Feng Su-po, who played Bruce Lee's sister in the film, and veteran film researcher Ho Sze-ying shared the production background and theme of "Little Cheung", allowing the audience to gain a deeper understanding of the development of the Hong Kong film industry in the 1950s. At the same time, the discussion looked back on Bruce Lee's film career and indirectly reflected the spiritual outlook of Hong Kong's post-war society. The theatre will open to the public for free admission 15 minutes before the event starts. Seats are limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The Hong Kong Heritage Museum will also broadcast the seminar live on its YouTube channel. In addition to the exhibitions, day camps and film screenings in the museum’s first floor display space, visitors can also visit the “Ordinary•Extraordinary──Bruce Lee” special exhibition in Special Exhibition Hall 6 on the second floor of the museum. Launched in 2021 and co-organized with the Bruce Lee Foundation, the exhibition features about 400 precious Bruce Lee artifacts and photos, a large-scale immersive light and shadow exhibit "I. Wu. Wu" and a number of interactive projects, allowing the audience to review Bruce Lee's legend from the aspects of movies, martial arts, personal cultivation, etc. In addition, visitors can also visit the special exhibitions "Continue to Love Leslie Cheung Memorial Exhibition" and "Out of Nothing - Hong Kong Film Art and Costume Design Exhibition", as well as the long-term exhibition "Look at Trendy Hong Kong 60+", all of which are free of charge. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department held the first "Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival" in April 2023, hoping to showcase Hong Kong's unique cultural characteristics and the creativity and charm of diverse integration through various activities including exhibitions, film screenings and pop concerts. #BruceLee #HongKongCulturalMuseum #goodplacetodischarge #discharge #goodplaceforfamily #holidayfamilytravel #localtravel #goodplacesinhongkong #goodplacesonweekdays #goodplacesonweekends #goodplaces #localfamilytravel #familytravel #parents #familyactivities #check-inattractions #check-in #hklifestyle #hkdaily #hkiger #hkig #hongkong #hk #instadaily #travelhk #discoverhk #explorehongkong #exploringhongkong #discoverhongkong #awesomehongkong
