Korean pop artist Artnom's first solo exhibition in Hong Kong: "Childhood Heart"

SHOUT Art Hub & Gallery is pleased to announce a new solo exhibition by Korean contemporary artist Artnom (b. 1971), Childhood Heart (Hong Kong Edition), featuring 24 works by the artist. Artnom’s medium of acrylic on canvas is characterised by a bold exploration of primary colours, strong textures and the juxtaposition of ‘pop art’ themes in the foreground with peripheral ‘pop culture’ references, making the essence of Artnom’s work so vivid and alive. With participation in over 24 exhibitions, including major galleries and museums such as Seoul Pyo Gallery and Daegu Museum of Art, Artnom has generated interest and excitement in the art world with its signature storytelling. Recurring motifs such as rainbows, hearts and cartoon characters bring out the innocence and fantasy of “childlikeness”. Artnom teases the audience by injecting his own world experience and naive view of the neon dream of Asian cultural values ​​and meanings. Cartoon characters from his childhood, such as those of Hayao Miyazaki, inspired the artist and come back to life in his work. Artnom’s unique aesthetic wit of reinterpreting cartoon characters with well-known icons from contemporary artists demonstrates, in the words of art critic Hyeon Jeong Ahn, “how artists interpret and breathe the spirit with the contemporary.” Through reimagining and reinterpreting, Artnom’s cheeky borrowing of old motifs is balanced with his own bold, rainbow-like artwork statements. Artnom once said about his artistic process: "I think the main motivation for my work is to sincerely express what I like, rather than to define a certain subject with a message... The characters are all different aspects of myself." He sees his works as an extension of reality, conveying a feeling of happiness, calm and comfort. These artworks address common human curiosity and the question of whether or not social norms are valid. By doing so, Artnom challenges the status quo and disrupts deeply held ideas and ideals that the audience may have. By combining and referencing modern norms and status symbols with humorous characters, the individualistic stance perfectly combines the depth of Korean modernity and aesthetic sensibility. “I want to use my humor to face the world and myself in a balanced way.” Artnom’s candor ultimately leads the audience into a bright and lively realm, encouraging people to connect with cultural values ​​in their brains while feeling optimistic and noble through Artnom’s artistic kaleidoscope. As the name suggests, the artist's artistic attitude is self-evident.
