The cathedral was built between the 13th and 16th centuries on the site of the Misredha Mosque in the Old Town.

Spanish Pyrenees Hike ~ Huesca (Region) At the end of the 13th century, Jaime I began to build a Gothic church on the site of the Misredah Mosque. The cathedral faces a small square, which is modest in size compared to the grand square of the temple. The late Romanesque portal is quite instructive (and seems very much restored to me). The polygonal plan of the bell tower softens the view. The fulcrum of the Gothic interior is the retractable table in the central apse: a work carved in alabaster by Damian Forment (author of the retractable table in the Basilica of Pilar in Zaragoza). Although the work still draws on medieval motifs and backgrounds, it has experimented with stylistic features typical of the Renaissance. #AprilDestinations2025 #SpainTravel #Aragon
