Itsukushien, a hot spring inn located right next to Genbikei Gorge

About 15 minutes by car from Ichinoseki Station, and 5 minutes on foot from Genbikei. I stayed here because I wanted to see the autumn leaves at Genbikei. I was worried because the reviews were quite mixed, but it was the peak of the autumn leaves and it's usually cheaper, so it was expensive by comparison, but, well, well, I guess it's worth the price. (23,100 yen for 2 people with dinner and breakfast) I stayed in the older building, and the bathroom tells of its age. I took a bath in the hot spring in the large bath, so I didn't use the bath in the room. The toilet had a new heated toilet seat. The room was the epitome of the Showa era. There were about 4 open-air baths in the large bath, but 3 of the baths that said "hot water" were too lukewarm to use. Only one was lukewarm, but still warm enough to use. I thought it might have been a coincidence at night, so I went in the next morning, but both were too lukewarm to use... It doesn't seem like they check the temperature very often. The meal was in a large hall that could accommodate a group. We had a seafood hotpot course with shark fin. In addition, rice, soup, and dessert were served buffet style and we were free to help ourselves. The food was not bad. It is not easy to get to, and the pick-up time is limited, so I recommend renting a car.
