Irkutsk City Tour

I planned a trip to Lake Baikal for the Chinese New Year, mainly on Olkhon Island. Since I was already there, I also arranged a 2-hour city tour of Irkutsk. 🏝️Route: 1. Monastery of the Holy Martyr Princess Olga: One of the oldest monasteries in Irkutsk and the only Orthodox nunnery in Eastern Siberia. 2. Kazan Cathedral: The most luxurious Orthodox church in the city, with a typical Byzantine style, red exterior walls, and blue onion domes. There are many ice sculptures in the yard, and a lighting and incense ceremony is held every Saturday at 4 pm. The incense smells very good. We were lucky to catch it, and the believers were very devout. If you have time, you can experience it. 3. Spasskaya Church: The second largest Orthodox church in Irkutsk, with white walls that look beautiful in the sunset. 4. Roman Catholic Church: Also known as the Organ Hall, it is the only Catholic church in Irkutsk, with a Gothic architectural style. 5. Cathedral of the Epiphany: The second oldest building in Irkutsk, the church is very large and located on the banks of the Angara River. 6. Moscow Gates: Built to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the reign of Tsar Alexander I, the overall color is light yellow, and the exterior walls are yellow and white. 7. Sunset on the Angara River: There are many people fishing under the Moscow Gates, and the mist on the river and the afterglow of the sunset are very special. 💗Tips: 1. There is a beautiful rime between the Cathedral of the Epiphany and the Moscow Gates, where you can stop and take pictures. 2. These places can be covered in a 2-hour city walk, or by car in less than 1.5 hours. It is recommended to rent a car in winter, as it is too cold to walk outside. Parking in the city is very convenient.
