🍣 Traditional Flavors by the River – Lunch at Shiratame Bekkan

The family had lunch at Shiratame Bekkan after our visit to Iwakuni Castle, and it was the perfect way to wind down after the walk. Located just by the iconic Kintaikyo Bridge, the restaurant offers an incredibly serene setting with beautiful views of the river and bridge through large windows. We came specifically to try their iconic Iwakuni sushi and soba—and both didn’t disappoint. The Iwakuni sushi was neatly packed and layered with vinegared rice, vegetables, and thin egg crepe, while the soba was light yet flavorful, great for a post-castle trek. The set meals were well presented, and service was polite and unobtrusive. The entire atmosphere was calm and traditional, a very relaxing contrast to the sightseeing crowd outside. It’s not a very big place, but that adds to the charm.
