The stunning Xishuangbanna Grand Buddhist Temple—a free attraction

Address: No. 18, Baji Road, Jinghong City, Yunnan Province The Grand Buddhist Temple, known in Dai language as 'Waba Jie', is the pilgrimage center for Buddhists in Xishuangbanna. The Xishuangbanna Grand Buddhist Temple was the sacred place for the highest ruler of the Xishuangbanna region before liberation, called 'Shaopianling' (directly translated as 'Lord of the Land' or 'King of the Land'), and his Tusi chieftains to worship Buddha. It is also the highest-ranking temple among the Buddhist temples in Xishuangbanna. Abbots from various temples would come here to worship and discuss scriptures, making it a sacred place for worship in the past. The Xishuangbanna Grand Buddhist Temple and Buddhist College cover an area of over 3,000 square meters, surrounded by walls forming a rectangular courtyard, with the entrance on the north side of the courtyard, connecting to Manting Park. The current building area inside the courtyard is about 1,100 square meters, with main buildings including the 'Vihan' hall in Dai language, the teaching building of the Buddhist College, the monks' dormitory 'Hongnuan', and the unfinished 'Posu' (Lotus Supreme Buddha Pavilion). To the left of the entrance of the current courtyard building, there is a row of bungalows with a large long drum in Dai language called 'Guangbing'. In front of the north wall, there is an altar with several Buddha statues, and the wall is painted with half of the 'Jataka Tales'. On the altar on the east wall, there is a seven-armed deity Buddha with seven dragon-head-shaped arms extending from the back and curving above the head. Incense and candles are often placed on the incense stand in front of the Buddha statue, with people frequently worshipping. 🌈 This place is adjacent to Manting Park, and it is suitable to arrange a visit to both places together.
