Overview • Location: Located in Jinyun County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, at the junction of the Kuocang and Xianxia mountain ranges. • Honors: National 5A Tourist Attraction, National Key Scenic Spot, and National Geological Park. • History: Originally named Jinyun Mountain, it was bestowed the title "Xiandu Mountain" in the seventh year of the Tianbao era due to auspicious signs of "fairy music and colorful clouds." Later, it was officially named Xiandu after Emperor Xuanzong of Tang inscribed the name. Main Attractions • Dinghufeng Peak: Known as the "Number One Peak Under Heaven," it is a columnar peak formed from rhyolite plateaus created by volcanic eruptions 160 million years ago, standing at 170.8 meters tall. Legend has it that the Yellow Emperor placed a cauldron here to refine pills and later ascended to heaven on a dragon. There is a small lake at the peak with clear spring water. • Niweng Cave: A cave on the mountainside of Chuyang Mountain, formed by erosion from Haoxi Stream and crustal uplift. Legend says that Ni Zi, the teacher of Fan Li, lived in seclusion here. Inside the cave, there are 60 cliff inscriptions from various dynasties, with the "Niweng Cave" inscription by Li Yangbing, the master of seal script, being a true treasure. • Little Red Cliff: A cliff across the stream from Xiayang Village, with ochre and white intermingled colors. From afar, it resembles the aftermath of a firework display, much like the Red Cliffs of the Yangtze River, but smaller in scale, hence the name. There is a "Little Red Cliff" inscription by Gong Tingbin, a Ming Dynasty county magistrate, on the cliff face. • Xiandu Temple: Formerly known as Zhao Hou Shrine, it is the oldest temple building in Jinyun, dedicated to Zhao Bing, a skilled physician and alchemist from the Eastern Han Dynasty. It has also served as a filming location for numerous movies and TV series, such as "Monk Comes Down the Mountain" and "The Legend of the Condor Heroes." • Zhutan Mountain: Facing Banyan Village across the stream, it got its name because Zhu Xi, a renowned scholar, often came here for leisure during his lectures. The Zhutan Pool, Xiandi Embankment, and Wangfeng Pavilion here create a picturesque scene, making it the best spot to capture the reflection of Dinghufeng Peak. Special Experiences • Watch the Old Man Leading an Ox Performance: On Zhutan Mountain, there are performances of an old man leading an ox on weekends from 9:30-11:00 and 14:30-16:00. On the ancient stone bridge, an old farmer slowly leads an ox, creating a rustic idyllic scene against the backdrop of the mountains and rivers, perfect for photos. • Haoxi Stream Rafting: From the Furongxia Scenic Area rafting dock to the Lianxi section of Zhutan Mountain, the journey is about four kilometers and takes about an hour and a half. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Furongxia and other sights along the way. Transportation • Public Transportation: You can first arrive at Jinyun West Railway Station and then take a shuttle bus directly to the Xiandu Scenic Area Visitor Center. • Driving: Jinwen Railway, Jinhua-Lishui-Wenzhou Expressway, Jinyun-Jiaojiang Expressway, and National Highway 330 all run through the area, making it easily accessible from surrounding cities. Food Recommendations There are many farmhouse restaurants around the scenic area. Jinyun Ma Duck, braised stream fish, daylily scrambled eggs, and Tushuang noodles are all local specialties worth trying.
