A Brief Stay in Kagoshima I spent a week in Kagoshima and grew quite fond of this small city. Compact yet tranquil and comfortable, living here felt like resting on cotton, with time slipping away unnoticed. Shopping was incredibly convenient, with shops lining the streets offering a wide variety of goods at fair prices. The shopkeepers didn’t shout or hustle, simply sitting leisurely, leaving customers to browse at their own pace. Occasionally, if asked about prices, their replies were brief and to the point, never excessive. The streets were clean and sparsely populated, with pedestrians strolling unhurriedly. Cars passed by quietly without honking, leaving only a gentle breeze in their wake. By the seaside, I often sat alone on a bench watching the waves—small and gentle, lapping the shore as if careful not to disturb visitors. The convenience of life here is beyond words. Food, transportation, and peace were all within easy reach. Over seven days, I encountered no inconveniences or annoyances. Leaving was bittersweet, but such a small city isn’t meant for long-term stays. It’s merely a well-placed comma in the journey, a chance to catch one’s breath. In Japan, whether you’re in a big city or a small one, you can always find your favorite coffee beans. It’s remarkable how a country that doesn’t produce coffee has refined its coffee culture to such perfection.
