[Kanagawa Prefecture/Yakumo Shrine] Kamakura's Evil-averting Shrine

It is said that the shrine was founded when Shinra Saburo Yoshimitsu, the younger brother of Minamoto no Yoshiie, enshrined the deity of Kyoto's Gion Shrine. At the time, an epidemic was raging, and this was done to calm the situation. At the time, the shrine was called Gozu Tenno Shrine and worshiped Gozu Tenno as its deity, but with the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the Meiji period, it took on its current form.
