Kamakura🇯🇵Jufukuji Temple

Jufukuji Temple is located in Kamakura City in the southern part of Kanagawa Prefecture. It is the third-ranked temple among the Kamakura Five Mountains selected by the Kamakura Shogunate. In 1180, Hojo Masako, the wife of Minamoto no Yoritomo, who founded the Kamakura shogunate, founded Jufukuji Temple on the site where the residence of Minamoto no Yoritomo's father, Yoshitomo, once stood. Normally, the middle gate is not open to the public, so the only areas that can be visited are the approach to the temple and the cemetery on the back mountain. A stone path stretches straight along the approach to the shrine. The tomb is said to be that of Hojo Masako and Minamoto no Sanetomo, and you can see the stone tablet standing quietly in the cave. The temple is surrounded by lush greenery, creating a solemn ambience. During the New Year and Golden Week periods, the shrine also has special opening days. The huge "Sakyamuni Buddha Statue" over 3 meters high, which is housed in a Buddhist temple built during the Edo period, is not to be missed.
