Review of Kamakura — A Charming Small Town

If you're tired of Tokyo and looking for a quieter place with nature, beautiful temples, cute cafes, and even the sea... Kamakura is the perfect answer! Just about an hour's journey from Tokyo, but the vibe feels like a whole different world 🍃 💫 Highlights that impressed us: 🪷 Kōtoku-in Temple – Home to the Great Buddha (Daibutsu), a must-visit for anyone coming to Kamakura! – Truly massive and serene. Taking photos with the lush greenery around gives a surprisingly calming feeling 🧘♀️ 🚶♀️ Komachi Street – A foodie shopping district! Plenty of snacks like roasted sweet potatoes, mochi, matcha soft serve, skewered fried chicken, and adorable souvenir shops. – There are also small cafes where you can take a relaxing break. 🌊 Yuigahama Beach – You can walk from the town to the sea! The atmosphere is fantastic—cool breeze, soft light, super chill. – If you're lucky, you might see people surfing and enjoy watching the sunset. It's got that indie Japanese vibe 🏄♂️🌅 🛕 Hase-dera Temple – This temple is on a hill, but the view from the top is amazing—you can see both the town and the sea. – Inside, it's peaceful with gardens and koi ponds, making for a very calming walk. 🍵 How we felt after a day of exploring: Kamakura feels like stepping into a slice-of-life manga. It has old temples, charming cafes, beautiful beaches, delicious food, and a tranquility that's hard to find in big cities 🌸 We recommend a day trip or staying overnight for a more relaxed experience. 🧳 A small trip tip to share: • Take the JR train from Tokyo to Kamakura—it's just about an hour. • Consider the Kamakura-Enoshima Pass (worth it if you're also visiting Enoshima).
