A Day in Kamakura – Culture, Nature & Coastal Charm

Kamakura offered the perfect escape from the city—rich with tradition, peaceful temples, and refreshing seaside air. We began our journey at the iconic Daibutsu (Great Buddha), an enormous bronze statue that’s both powerful and calming to see in person. The surrounding temple grounds were serene and deeply atmospheric. Next, we visited Hōkokuji Temple, also known as the “Bamboo Temple.” The bamboo forest there was absolutely mesmerizing—tall, silent, and gently swaying in the breeze. It felt like walking through a living painting. Later, we headed toward the Kamakura coastline, where the summer sun lit up the sea. The view was stunning, with waves glistening and surfers dotting the shore. It was the kind of scene that makes you want to stay a little longer. Before leaving, we stopped for a bowl of Shirasu-don, Kamakura’s famous rice bowl topped with fresh whitebait. Light, savory, and very local—it was the perfect way to end the day.
