"Seishoji Temple | The ancient temple of Kawazu's Kappa legend"

Seisokuji Temple in Kawazu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a historic Zen temple founded in 1319, about 700 years ago. The quiet grounds, which exude a sense of history, have a calm atmosphere with beautiful ceiling paintings and a statue of Shaka Nyorai from the late Heian period. This temple is famous for the "Kappa Legend." The "Kappa Turtle" is said to have been a water bottle given to the head priest by a kappa who lived in this area long ago as a thank you for being saved by him. You can also see this precious temple treasure if you make a reservation in advance. It's unfortunate that it can't be viewed during the cherry blossom festival to avoid crowds, but I'd like to visit again ☺️ The temple seals come in a variety of designs and are popular!
