Wat Khon Sawan

Wat Kon Sawan, Chaiyaphum Province 🙏This temple is outstanding in terms of architecture and history, especially the ancient sim, built in traditional Isan local art. The walls are thick, the roof is low, the windows are small, and there are “Hoop Taem” (wall paintings) telling the story of the life of the Buddha and local literature. Inside the sim, there is a Buddha statue sitting cross-legged in the Mara-Vijaya posture, which the locals call Luang Pho Ta Daeng. 🌿The large Buddha statue or Luang Pho Yai is enshrined in the chapel. It is a sandstone Buddha statue in the Dvaravati art style, dating from around the 12th - 16th Buddhist centuries, which was influenced by Khmer art. It is a straight stone slab with no narrow waist, which is a characteristic of Dvaravati art. Some slabs are carved with patterns of people according to Buddhist Jataka stories.
