Cornerstone in Kingston-upon-Thames Reasonably priced decent food - a real gem of a find

I travelled to Kingston-upon-Thames recently. A lovely place I used to visit years ago....There are pedestrianised walkways & many high street names, plus 2 very large department stores: John Lewis & Fenwicks (formerly known as Bentalls)......After looking around, reminiscing of the times I used to live in London so was able to regularly visit #kingston-upon-thames. I started to look for a decent lunch venue.Every independent restaurant & cafe I checked out was really expensive- at least £12.00 for a main meal & that's before you've added the price of a drink.I didn't check any of the usual chains - they're all filled with overly-processed, extortionately priced prepacked junk!......Near the railway station, I then spotted a pub: Cornerstone Public House. I went in & was pleasantly surprised....There was a varied menu: the usual pub grub choices but all very reasonably priced, plus lots of deals available.....Being vegetarian I was pleased to see vegetarian options are included in a meal deal: a choice of different types of chips, a soft drink & a main all for £8.49..& just pay a little bit extra if your drink is alcoholic. I had grilled halloumi & salad in a ciabatta roll with chips (these were properly thick cut chips really good - not skinny, tasteless fries!), & a drink. There were proper bottles of mayonnaise, vinegar, etc on the table instead of mini sachets that are often difficult to open.....My meal was really tasty, & it also came with a generous portion of rocket leaves. There was plenty of halloumi in the roll...It was very filling, very nice. .....I can recommend this place if you're on a budget & are looking for vegetarian options that actually include some healthy vegetables/salad....The place was busy - always a good sign.....
