From Slum to Art: Visiting Malang’s Rainbow Village 🎨🌈

#springitinerary I finally made it to Jodipan Village, famously known as Rainbow Village in Malang. Once one of Indonesia’s largest slums, this riverside neighborhood by the Brantas River has been completely transformed — all thanks to a group of university students who believed that art could change lives. What started as a student project in 2016 turned into a powerful story of revival and pride. The houses are now painted in vibrant colors, with murals everywhere — from staircases to rooftops. Walking through it felt like stepping inside a giant coloring book. The entrance fee is just 10K IDR, and if you want to cross the high bridge to the other side, it's another 5K. I spent about 30 minutes wandering, taking photos, and just soaking in how creativity gave this once-forgotten place a new identity. It’s not a big place and doesn’t take long to explore, but it leaves a lasting impression.
