How to enjoy Kochi: Visit Kochi Castle and feast on sashimi

Kochi Castle, located in Kochi City on Japan's Shikoku Island, is a historic castle boasting magnificent architecture and captivating natural scenery. It serves not only as a cultural heritage site but also as an integral part of the local community. Exploring Kochi Castle offers a deep dive into Japan's history and culture. Starting from the city center of Kochi, you can easily walk to Kochi Castle. The castle's exterior is truly impressive, with stone and wooden walls showcasing the characteristics of ancient Japanese architecture. The towering white-walled keep glimmers under the sunlight, creating a picturesque view. Inside the castle, you'll find various historical exhibits that detail the background of Kochi Castle and its significant figures. The wooden structures and antique decorations within the castle transport visitors back to Japan's past centuries. This time, I didn’t go up to the keep, as walking around the area already made me a bit hungry. So, I headed to a nearby restaurant specializing in Kochi cuisine — Tosa no Kuni Nijuyonmangoku. The sashimi set for two was incredibly large 🫨😳, including 15 pieces of fresh fish sashimi, 9 sushi pieces, one lobster in broth, 4 tempura shrimp, a cup of sake-braised snails, 3 pieces of fried whale meat, 4 soy-marinated fish fillets, 4 crab claws, and even some fruit. For two people, it was absolutely filling 🤯, and shockingly, the price was only $350 HKD‼️😱😱 It even included five slices of Kochi’s famous smoked bonito 🥰, which had a rich and fragrant smoky flavor.
