#aprilblooms A temple of the Jodo sect on the way from the centre of Arashiyama to Kiyotaki. It began when Kobo Daishi collected and buried the remains that had been left in the field, which was once known as a place of wind burial, and built Gochizan Nyorai-ji Temple for memorial service. Later, Honen Shonin opened a nenbutsu dojo, so it became a nenbutsu temple. About 8,000 stone Buddhas and stone pagodas lined up in the "Saiin no Kawahara" in the precincts are the tombs of people who were once buried in the Kano area. It is dug up and collected in the mid-Meiji period that have been unrelated Buddhas for hundreds of years, and arranged as if they were listening to the preaching. Every year in August, "A Thousand Lights Memorial Service" is held. The countless candlelights lit to pay tribute to the Muen Buddha are fantastic late summer features.
