Zhuge Ancient Village in Lanxi, Zhejiang

Zhuge Bagua Village is the largest settlement of descendants of Zhuge Liang, the famous prime minister of the Shu Han Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period. The village is laid out according to the Eight Trigrams and Nine Palaces, with well-proportioned heights and exquisite structures, creating a beautiful skyline and a unique overall appearance. The village has over 200 well-preserved ancient buildings from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Its architectural style, characterized by "grey tiles, horse-head walls, thick beams, sturdy pillars, and small boudoirs," is hailed by experts as "a model of traditional ancient villages and dwellings in the south of the Yangtze River."
On November 20, 1996, the residential buildings in Zhuge Village were designated as a fourth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. In 2018, Zhuge Bagua Village was awarded the title of the first batch of National Primary and Secondary School Research and Practice Education Bases, one of the four such bases in Zhejiang Province. On July 28, 2019, Zhuge Bagua Village was selected as one of the first batch of National Key Rural Tourism Villages.
