The Potala Palace

Located on Maburi Hill, northwest of Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the Potala Palace is a palace-style complex at an altitude of over 3,700 meters. It was originally built by Songtsen Gampo, the ruler of the Tubo Dynasty, to welcome Princess Wencheng. The entire palace features a Tibetan style, standing over 200 meters high with 13 exterior levels but only 9 actual levels. As it was built on a mountainside, with vast stone walls rising like cliffs, the building seems to merge with the mountain, creating a majestic presence. Opening hours are daily from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Tickets must be booked one day in advance, and visitors can enter the next day with the reservation code during their allotted time slot. Photography is prohibited inside the palace, and it takes about an hour to explore. After the visit, take a short rest behind the Potala Palace, where there's a park for boating, Tibetan dancing, and enjoying the night view. The night view starts around 8:30 pm, with lights gradually illuminating the palace from top to bottom, creating a golden, magnificent, towering ancient fortress.
