Museum of London Docklands is located on the Isle of Dogs in West London. The museum, opened in 2003, takes visitors through the history of the docks and shipping on the Thames from the beginning of the first Roman port to the closure of the central London Docks in the 1970s and the subsequent development of the area with new commercial and residential buildings. The collection contains of historical artifacts, models and paintings. The museum, which has 12 rooms and a children's gallery uses the latest interactive technologies. The museum often hosts lectures and conferences, has a reading room and operates the Sainsburys Study Center with public archives, as well as a restaurant and shop.
