The Longmen Grottoes are truly magnificent.

Located in Luoyang, Henan Province, the Longmen Grottoes are the world's largest and most abundant collection of stone carving art. They have been recognized by UNESCO as the "highest peak of Chinese stone carving art." Construction began during the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty when the capital was moved to Luoyang. The grottoes were built over a period of more than 1,400 years, spanning multiple dynasties. Currently, there are 2,345 Buddhist niches, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscribed stone tablets. The grottoes reflect the development of ancient Chinese politics, economy, culture, and other fields, and have made significant contributions to the innovation and development of Chinese grotto art. In 2000, the Longmen Grottoes were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
