Phra Wo Shrine

Chao Pho Phawo was a Karen warrior man whom King Taksin the Great appointed as the head of Mae Lamao, a border town of Thailand during his reign. He was responsible for looking after and reporting any incidents or enemies invading the country. Chao Pho Phawo’s name is a Karen name, with the prefix “Pha” meaning “Mr.” The word “Wo” may have been derived from “Wa” meaning “white” or “white man.” This shrine has always been highly revered by the people of Tak and Mae Sot district. Inside the shrine is a statue of Chao Pho Phawo, which people often hang garlands on his hands. Since he was a warrior, he liked the sound of gunshots. Therefore, to show respect to him, many people who visit here often set off firecrackers or honk their horns while driving past. Furthermore, with a high mountain as a backdrop, the shrine is beautiful and perfect for taking pictures. If you walk up the stairs next to the Chao Pho Phawo shrine to the left, you will find a large reclining Buddha statue on a pedestal that has been built into a large hall. Inside the hall, There is a Buddha statue in the middle of the room. The pillars are made into a Naga that crawls down and spreads its head to cover the Buddha. There are many Buddha statues around the area for worship. There are many murals. In the area, there are also many shops selling food and souvenirs for tourists to stop by and buy souvenirs.
