Matsue Shrine in Ninomaru, Matsue Castle ⛩ The deities worshipped are: Matsudaira Naomasa (first lord of the Matsue Matsudaira clan) Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toshogu Shrine) Matsudaira Harusato (seventh lord of the Matsudaira clan) Horio Yoshiharu (founder of the Matsue domain) Toshogu Shrine was founded by Horio Yoshiharu in 1628. In 1877, the former Matsue domain founded Rakuzan Shrine, with Matsudaira Naomasa as its deity. In 1898, Toshogu Shrine and Rakuzan Shrine were enshrined together. In 1899, it was moved to its current location and renamed Matsue Shrine. In 1931, Horio Yoshiharu and Matsudaira Harusato were enshrined together. So, tracing the history of the shrine, we see quite a few faces❗️ While most tourists head to Matsue Castle🏯, I was surprised to see a few people stopping by Matsue Shrine⛩🙌 It is a quiet shrine, but Matsue Shrine was the catalyst for Matsue Castle becoming a national treasure. It was here that a prayer tablet with the year the castle was built was discovered✨ What's more, the city had offered a 5 million yen reward for this missing prayer tablet😳 It's good that it was found. I hope you don't miss out on Matsue Shrine and make a visit.
