Strolling along Kappa Bridge in Kamikochi

After walking through the Taisho Pond trail, you’ll arrive at the legendary Kappa Bridge, the most iconic spot in Kamikochi. Standing on the bridge, you’ll see the crystal-clear Azusa River below, surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Hotaka Mountain Range. The air is so pure it feels as if it’s been freshly washed, making you instinctively hold your breath. This wooden suspension bridge, about 36 meters long, has connected travelers and mountains for over a century. In the morning, sunlight bathes the mountain tops, while in the afternoon, mist wraps around the peaks, turning the mountains and river into a golden-hued masterpiece—each moment feels like a different painting. On both sides of the bridge, there are small eateries and coffee shops.
